The Role of Cisternostomy in the Management of Severe Traumatic Brain Injury: A Triple-Center Study

Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a critical public health problem worldwide, constituting major cause of mortality and morbidity for people all ages, but especially in the younger population. Decompressive craniectomy (DC) cisternostomy are surgical procedures commonly used management severe TBI, their effectiveness improving outcomes remains controversial. Methods: We conducted prospective longitudinal study on patients who underwent treatment TBI between 2021 2022. The extended Glasgow outcome scale (GOS-E) was to assess clinical at 2 weeks, 3 months, 6 months after surgery. Results: included 30 (21 men 9 women) met inclusion criteria. Among them, 24 (80%) DC combined with cisternostomy, while (20%) alone. initial Coma Scale (GCS) score admission ranged from 4 8 points, an average 5.9. overall 13.3% 20%, respectively. rate 12.5% 16.7% + group alone group, No statistically significant difference seen two groups terms mortality, favorable months. Conclusions: Our preliminary multi-center shows good or both early long-term follow-up. Larger randomized trials needed establish TBI.
